Living in New England, we know all too well that the weather changes regularly, and if you don’t like it now… just wait a few minutes!
Our policy for photos is pretty simple – we’ll shoot in any weather (short of a blizzard or hurricane). If YOU wish to postpone, we’re good with that as well. Just give us as much notice as you can!
Keep in mind a few important facts:
1) Scheduling based on a weather forecast ten days out is pretty pointless. Most weather people have problems predicting the weather for tomorrow, let alone ten days from now.
2) When we shoot a home, we can make falling rain or snow “disappear,” and we can replace dreary skies with a lovely blue sky. For most properties, this is sufficient.
3) Obviously, ‘view’ properties, waterfront properties, etc. are a special case as a large portion of the purchase price is FOR the view. In these cases, we suggest allowing sufficient lee time before your listing is set to go “live” for rescheduling (perhaps multiple times) to get that great weather. During the busy season (April through the end of summer), we are generally booked out a week or more. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee your reschedule date will have any better weather, so we have to plan on that as well.
3) Interiors almost always look better on an overcast or even lightly rainy day. It’s hard to understand why, but it’s true! Especially if you have beautiful lawns, colorful flowers, foliage, or trees, having a beautiful glistening coat of water on them makes them “pop” – your windows disappear, and it looks like a lush tropical forest through the windows!
Bright sun can be the enemy in real estate photography and videography. We can’t move the sun, make it less bright or glaring, and we can’t rearrange the house to be in optimal sunlight!
It’s also important to remember that blue sky and bright sun are far more important to Realtors than home buyers. Every home buyer on the planet earth knows they are NOT buying weather or blue skies when they purchase a home. Every home buyer on the planet earth also understands that unless you live in San Diego, we have weather! Weather happens! Buyers are looking at the house. We guarantee that no home buyer searching online for a new home EVER said, “Honey, I love this house – it’s perfect! But it was photographed on a cloudy day, so let’s not look at it!”
You need to balance YOUR target “on the market” date with OUR schedule to get everything the way you want it to be! And that means thinking and planning as far in advance as possible.
